Building a Secure, Autonomous Tuning Marketplace for the UK Automotive Aftermarket

Our client identified a significant gap in the UK automotive aftermarket: there was no dedicated, trustworthy platform where professional ECU tuning dealers could list and sell vehicle tune map flash files directly to customers. The existing landscape forced sellers to rely on informal channels, generic file-sharing platforms, or fragmented forum communities — none of which offered adequate security, professionalism, or a seamless buyer experience.

Key challenges that needed to be solved included:

• Secure file transactions: Tune map files are high-value digital assets; sellers needed confidence that their intellectual property would only reach paying, verified customers.
• Payment complexity: Enabling multiple independent dealers to receive payments autonomously — without the platform acting as a manual intermediary — required a robust multi-vendor payment architecture.
• Discoverability: Buyers needed to quickly find the right tune file for their specific vehicle make, model, engine variant, and tuning goal from a potentially large and growing catalogue.
• Trust and credibility: As a new platform entering a specialist market, building buyer and seller confidence from day one was essential.

We designed and developed Tunerr.co.uk from the ground up as a purpose-built marketplace tailored specifically to the ECU tuning industry. Every feature was considered through the lens of two distinct user groups: dealers wanting a frictionless way to monetise their tune files, and buyers wanting a safe, easy way to find and purchase the right product.

At the core of the platform's commercial infrastructure, we integrated Stripe Connect to power a fully autonomous multi-vendor payment flow. Dealers can onboard themselves independently, complete Stripe's identity verification, and immediately begin receiving payouts directly — with no manual intervention required from the platform. All transactions benefit from Stripe's PCI DSS compliance, ensuring card data is handled to the highest security standards and protecting both buyers and sellers.

To address discoverability at scale, we built a detailed filtering and search system allowing customers to drill down by vehicle manufacturer, model, engine type, tuning stage, and more — significantly reducing the time to find a relevant product. Alongside this, we implemented a built-in reviews and ratings system, enabling buyers to leave verified feedback on purchases, which in turn helps new customers make confident decisions and incentivises dealers to maintain quality standards.

The result is an end-to-end autonomous marketplace: dealers sign up, list their files, and get paid — buyers search, purchase, and receive their files securely — all without platform-side manual processing.

Tunerr.co.uk launched as a fully operational, production-ready marketplace serving the UK automotive tuning community. The platform delivers a seamless experience for both sides of the marketplace, with dealers able to onboard and begin selling independently within minutes and buyers benefiting from secure, PCI-compliant transactions and instant digital file delivery.
