Fire Alarm and Access Control Installation for a Commercial Office Building

Full design, supply, and installation of a BS 5839 compliant fire alarm system and integrated door access control for a 3-storey commercial office building.

The Challenge

A commercial property management company was refurbishing a three-storey office building ahead of new tenants moving in. The existing fire alarm system was obsolete and non-compliant. The client also required a new door access control system that could be administered centrally and provide audit trails for entry and exit.

Our Approach

A fire risk assessment was conducted to determine the appropriate system category and detector coverage. A new addressable fire alarm system was designed to BS 5839-1 and installed throughout the building, with full zone mapping and a new control panel accessible to building management.

An IP-based access control system was installed at all entry and exit points, integrated with the fire alarm to automatically unlock all access-controlled doors on alarm activation. The system was configured with an administrative web interface, allowing building management to add and remove access cards and review entry logs remotely.

The Outcome

The building received its fire alarm commissioning certificate prior to the tenant move-in date. The integrated access control system has allowed the property management team to manage building access for multiple tenants independently, reducing operational overhead significantly. A maintenance contract was agreed to cover annual fire alarm servicing and access control system updates.
