Microsoft 365 Migration and IT Support Takeover for a Law Firm
We migrated a 45-user law firm from an on-premises Exchange server to Microsoft 365 and took over their day-to-day IT support, improving reliability and reducing costs.
The Challenge
The firm was running an end-of-life Exchange 2013 server with no internal IT resource. The server had experienced two outages in the preceding year, each causing several hours of email downtime. The firm needed a reliable, modern email platform and ongoing IT support without the cost of a full-time IT member of staff.
Our Approach
We began with a full audit of the existing environment — Active Directory, file shares, printers, and all user devices. A Microsoft 365 Business Premium tenant was provisioned, and a phased migration of all mailboxes was performed using the Microsoft Migration Manager tooling, with a 4-week period of mail coexistence to allow for thorough testing.
Intune was configured for device management, enabling BitLocker encryption, conditional access policies, and remote wipe capability across all firm devices. SharePoint and OneDrive were set up to replace the on-premises file server, with migration of existing file shares.
The Outcome
The migration was completed without any email downtime for users. The firm now has a fully supported, cloud-based IT environment with 99.9% uptime SLA on core services. IT support is delivered remotely with an average first response time of under 2 hours. The transition eliminated the cost of maintaining on-premises server hardware and simplified compliance with data protection obligations.
