Payroll Setup and Auto-Enrolment for a Hospitality Business

We set up and manage monthly payroll for a hospitality business with 28 employees, handling RTI submissions, auto-enrolment pension, and P60 production.

The Challenge

A growing hospitality operator with sites across two locations had been managing payroll manually using spreadsheets. As headcount grew to 28 employees, including a mix of full-time, part-time, and variable-hours staff, the manual process was error-prone and consuming significant management time each month.

Our Approach

We reviewed the existing payroll records and identified several errors in NI category assignments and holiday pay calculations that were corrected prior to transition. Cloud-based payroll software was implemented, with secure access for the client to submit hours and approve payslips each month.

Auto-enrolment staging was reviewed and a compliant pension scheme was set up, with all eligible employees enrolled and contribution rates configured correctly. Letters were issued to all employees explaining their rights and the enrolment process.

The Outcome

Monthly payroll is now processed accurately and on time, with RTI submissions to HMRC made within the required deadlines. The business owner estimates they save 8 hours per month previously spent on payroll administration. All auto-enrolment obligations are met, with pension contributions remitted to the scheme provider each month and a clear audit trail maintained.
